STORM Grab Another Conference Win Against Bulldogs

By Dylan Branscome

January 30, 2026 – The 51ÊÓƵ STORM beat the Pitt Bulldogs 89-69 in Brinkley Gym Thursday afternoon. 51ÊÓƵ now improves to 17-4 on the season and 11-3 in Region 10 play and are currently on a 14-game win streak.

The STORM were led by Dre Huff with 22 points on 50% shooting, two double-doubles from Nijel Howard (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Tayvion Tangiora (16 points, 14 rebounds), and Conall Lowry with 14 points.

The first half was an ugly showing for the STORM offensively, shooting just 32% from the field and 20% from three. The only reason 51ÊÓƵ kept a nine-point lead over Pitt was with good free-throw shooting (80%) and limiting the amount of shots the Bulldogs took to just 28.

The second half was a complete swap in stats for both the STORM and the Bulldogs. Pitt managed to shoot 53% from the field in the first half, along with a 60% three-point percentage, they only shot 37% from the field in the second half, and also made zero threes. Meanwhile, the STORM managed to turn their shooting woes around to shoot 53% from the field in the second half to grow their lead.

The STORM’s rebounding was a tremendous difference maker in securing another victory against the Bulldogs. 51ÊÓƵ out rebounded them 58-34, with 23 of those being offensive boards compared to Pitt’s six. Tangiora grabbed more offensive rebounds (eight) than defensive ones (six), truly showing that 51ÊÓƵ’s height and rebounding ability far outweighed Pitt’s. The masterful offensive rebounding led to the STORM having 27 second chance points compared to the Bulldogs’ six.

51ÊÓƵ also forced 19 turnovers and scored 26 points off of them. Along with his double-double, Howard also had five steals, and Evan Ingram had four. Even with a lackluster offensive performance from 51ÊÓƵ when the game was said and done, shooting just 40% from the field, 19% from three, and 69% from the free-throw line, the defense and rebounding prowess was enough to still leave with a victory.

The STORM return to action at home against a Region 10 opponent, the Guilford Tech Titans on Monday, Feb. 2 at 7:00 P.M. EST at Brinkley Gym.
