DCCC student Amber Moore stands with her 2019 Lexington Farmers Market at the Depot poster design. The Lexington Farmers Market board chose Moore鈥檚 design to represent the market across Lexington.
April 3, 2019 鈥The citizens of Lexington may notice something new up in windows, doors and public spaces across town. For its second year, the Lexington Farmers Market board chose a poster among the designs of Davidson County Community College students to represent their summer 2019 season.
Four different posters were presented to the board and other community members in the final week of March on the Davidson campus of DCCC.
鈥淭his was a really, really difficult decision,鈥 Lexington Farmers Market board member Jennifer Rosencrans said. 鈥淲e would be exceptionally proud to have any of the posters represent us across town.鈥
Four students from DCCC鈥檚 digital media production program worked with board members throughout the semester to research and refine their designs. The board chose student Amber Moore鈥檚 design to represent this year鈥檚 season.
鈥淲hen I first started this process, I was nervous,鈥 Moore said. 鈥淵et after exercising my problem solving skills through research and knowledge of the Lexington Farmers Market as well as my own personal creativity and style, I was inspired to keep going. Now I know I can continue to learn and grow as a graphic designer.鈥
The posters of digital media production students Howard Bostian IV, Monica Hall and Zachary Allred will also be showcased with Moore鈥檚 design at the farmers market.
This is the second year the farmers market鈥檚 board members tasked the students in DCCC鈥檚 digital media production program with designing their season鈥檚 poster.
鈥淭his is what community colleges do,鈥 Margaret Annunziata, DCCC Vice President of Academic Affairs, said. 鈥淲e serve as a partner of this community. We serve to not only empower students to meet their own personal goals, but to also take what they learn here and apply it to strengthen and enliven their larger community.鈥
All of this year鈥檚 posters will be on display at Lexington Farmers Market at the Depot on 129 Railroad Street in Lexington from their opening day on May 4 to mid-October.
