The Gene Haas Foundation presented Davidson County Community College with a check for $20,000 to support scholarships for students studying machining. The foundation has awarded DCCC with funds of varying amounts for the past four years.
鈥淭he Gene Haas Foundation recognizes a need for more highly trained machinists,鈥� said Trip Robinson, sales engineer for Haas Factory Outlet. 鈥淲e recently hired a 2019 DCCC graduate and he鈥檚 doing great. We want to see more students excel in machining.鈥�
Following the check presentation, Robinson spoke of Gene Haas鈥檚 passion for the industry, which inspires the generosity of the foundation.
The presentation coincided with the annual advisory board meeting for DCCC鈥檚 Advanced Manufacturing programs, which include Computer Integrated Machining, Electronics Engineering Technology and Industrial Systems Technology. The check presentation occurred during the board鈥檚 meeting in the machining lab located on the Davidson campus. The advisory board members include representatives from Phillips Corporation, Salisbury Machinery, Grass America, Woempner Machine, Atrium Windows and Doors, Davie County Schools, Custom Plastic Forming, Custom Golf Cart Supply, EGGER and Digital Design and Modeling.
鈥淲e are grateful for the partnerships and support we receive from those willing to serve on the advisory board,鈥� said Rodney Reece, associate dean of the School of Business, Engineering and Technical Studies. 鈥淔inancial donations like this gift from the Gene Haas Foundation will help more students achieve their educational goals and make the possibility for career advancement a reality for many in our community.鈥�
Students also attended the check presentation, introduced themselves to the advisory board, and had the opportunity to thank the Gene Haas Foundation.
